Judging wine in a hurricane
The Wine Curmudgeon is supposed to be in suburban Washington over the weekend to judge white wines in the Virginia Governor's Cup competition. Coincidentally, so is Hurricane Irene. Or, as my pal Dave McIntrye said, "Look for viogniers with salinity."
The irony, of course, is that when I lived in Louisiana there were no hurricanes. So what happens when I go to judge wine? A hurricane, of course. Hopefully, Irene will stay well out to sea and not bother anyone. So, while I worry about that, here is John Fogerty's take on hurricanes, courtesy of kvs123 at YouTube.

And if you’d come a few days early, you’d have gotten an earthquake at no extra charge!

I did an earthquake in Santa Rosa a couple of years ago. Once was enough.
Ironically, I figure if everything’s canceled for the storm, I don’t have to drive anywhere!
It’s Saturday morning, and no hurricane yet. The latest forecast is late tonight. That’s the good news. The bad news is that my flight to go home tomorrow was canceled, and there was nothing until Monday. So maybe I’ll call a few guys and see if they want to visit wineries on Sunday.
